This. This right here.

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what,” Romney is heard saying in the video. “All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it. That, that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what.”

Romney goes on to say that “these are people who pay no income tax. 47 percent of Americans who pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn’t connect.” He says his job “is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

Fuck You, Mitt Romney. Fuck you. Fuck you and everyone that thinks like you, you entitled, elitist, tax-dodging prick.

This afternoon, we met the family up at the Cumberland Railroad to take a scenic steam train ride through the woods. The train is a Baldwin 2-8-0, and it makes a beautiful meaty sound as it powers up the incline from Cumberland to Frostburg.

Update:

There are four passenger cars hooked up to a dinette car with snacks, toys, and drinks; behind the tender is a club car for first-class tickets, and at the end is a caboose. We found seats in the last passenger car and flopped seatbacks to face each other, then settled in for the ride.

Restless, we explored the train after it was underway, and found wide viewing areas in the mail car. Finn stuck her head out and came back with a face full of cinders; after that she borrowed Uncle Rob’s sunglasses.

Arriving at the depot in Frostburg, we got off the train and found a good vantage point to watch the train spin on the turntable.

It was pretty impressive.

After a quick lunch at the depot, we got back on the train for the return trip.

Everyone had a great time, and I think we all are going to bed early tonight.

Wow. I probably definitely don’t have enough money for one of these, but I love the Bell & Ross WW1-92 Military watch. I also like the BR 126 Original too.

Finn is away at a sleepover. Mama and I spent a wonderful evening together without interruptions, tiny socks, stinky OXes, potty breaks, whiny pleas for dessert, zerbets, or bedtime stories. We relished in a long conversation with each other. We ate whatever we felt like for dinner and threw the dishes in the sink.

I miss her.

“I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make.” He mentioned research that shows the simple act of making decisions degrades one’s ability to make further decisions. It’s why shopping is so exhausting. “You need to focus your decision-making energy. You need to routinize yourself. You can’t be going through the day distracted by trivia.”

Bumper mounted 2

As detailed in this exhaustive thread, there’s a pretty black bumper on the back of the Scout today. I have a little more work to do to tie up some loose ends, but it’s installed, the license plate is lit, and the spare tire is ready to be mounted.

Our weekend was good, and busy. I spent a bunch of time away from the girls to build and install a new Mountain Lion server for a friend, which went smoother and easier than I’d hoped. Apart from a balky web script that blew up in PHP 5.2, I had everything up and running in a few hours. Yardwork around the house got caught up on, so it looks less like we abandoned the place and more like we just forgot about things (the back lawn hadn’t been completely mowed in about a month). I ran a bunch of errands with Finn as my copilot and got caught up on a pile of small things around the house; going into the fall things are going to get busy around here so I’m trying to prepare as best I can.

My batch of Surly Cynic is in the keg and it’s delicious. It needs a final day or two of carbonation, but that hasn’t stopped me from drinking it. I should also have an IPA kit in hand by Wednesday. Over the vacation, I set up a strong brewing table in the basement next to the kegerator so that I can ferment and transfer beer without moving it bringing it upstairs, and have a place to keep all the brewing gear. Eventually I’m going to move some lumber out of the basement (and possibly the table saw too) and into the garage, after that gets reorganized for the seventeenth time. What the garage really needs is a set of custom-built shelves, but I don’t know if that’s in the cards until wintertime.

It’s mounted!

Bumper mounted 2

I bought six stainless bolts for mounting clips to hide the license plate wire, which I hope to put in sometime in the next day or so. Before I mounted it I drilled and tapped four holes on the backside of the main bumper, and there’s enough standoff to make installation easy.

Drilled for clips

The mirror mount got painted and reinstalled.

I also put the soft top bows back together as much as possible, but I need some 1.5″ stainless bolts to connect wider sections of the bracketry (I’m using nylon lockwashers this time, so I need a longer bolt to snug the threads). Now that it’s getting cooler I’m going to pull the bikini top, wash it, and store it for the winter. My hunt for stronger snaps is still underway; I’d like to get the door surrounds fixed before it really gets cold.
