This morning, I lay in bed dozing while Mama got up and helped Finn in the bathroom. They peeked their heads in the door and asked if they could lay down with me, and I scooted over to make room on the bed. We all lazed around for about ten minutes giggling and smushing and pretending to sleep, and every minute was worth being late for work.
Dads: The Original Hipsters. This is pure motherfucking genius.
I don’t know much about Ayn Rand, other than the standard Cliff’s Notes summaries of her books, and her name has been coming up repeatedly in the news, tied to (mostly) Republican politicians on budget-cutting stampedes. It’s interesting, then, to learn about her views of common people, the super-wealthy, and her own dark history. Slate’s review of two recent biographies goes into a little more detail and puts the recent upswing in Rand’s popularity into context.
Digging through my limited archives, I found this photo among other posed shots around summer pools, crowded farmhouse tables, and outdoor picnics. There are other, more traditional photos of the man (He’s on the right), but this one is how I’ll remember him. Goodbye, Uncle Neil.
There are so many reasons this is my new favorite picture; the obvious comparison in size, the whorls of hair on each head, the lighting… I could go on. This was one of about ten that I quickly shot through the screen door.
Mmmm, I like these: Baladeo 22g and 34g Knives, on Cool Tools. I’m looking for a lightweight carrying knife (I agree with the poster, my original Leatherman is awesome but as heavy as an anvil) and these look very promising.
