Is anyone else alarmed by how batshit crazy Michael Steele is sounding these days?
“…I just don’t understand this idea that somehow people think that the federal government can enter into a marketplace and compete with private industry.”

Right. Because private industry is doing it so fucking well. Pre-existing conditions? Canadian pharmacies? Medical holidays? Rising healthcare costs versus stagnant income? is anybody paying attention here?

This makes me weep with appreciation and sadness: an abandoned Catalina seaplane in the Saudi Arabian desert. The story is fascinating.

Hmm. I picked up a first-generation Xbox for $20 at a yard sale a few months ago, and i’ve played it sporadically since then (I now have a family, so it’s low on the list of priorities). This headline caught my eye, though: Transform Your Classic Xbox into a Killer Media Center. I have to do some sleuthing to see exactly what my Xbox configuration is.

After a couple of middling albums, The Crystal Method released a new one called Divided By Night which has been slowly growing on me this week. They’ve dialed back the big-beat they were known for earlier to produce an album full of collaborations with other artists, including Emily Haines of Metric (another favorite new album), but the one I’ve been rotating is the final track with an artist named Meiko, called Falling Hard. It’s nice to have them back.

I’m currently listening to an album called We Can Create (iTunes link) by Maps on heavy rotation. It’s laid back electronica with some hooky choruses. Right up my alley.

From the NYT, After Hurricane Katrina, Doctors at New Orleans Memorial Hospital Faced Deadly Choices. What happened after the flood waters rose? These are choices I would not want to be forced to make.

This should be required reading for, well, pretty much everybody who complains about our current fiscal mess. The GOP’s Misplaced Rage. A snippet:
“Until conservatives once again hold Republicans to the same standard they hold Democrats, they will have no credibility and deserve no respect. They can start building some by admitting to themselves that Bush caused many of the problems they are protesting.”

From hivelogic, a simple (and functional) Python script to back up your Flickr photos. If you don’t feel comfortable with the Terminal, it may not be for you, but it worked flawlessly for me.
