Does anybody have a basic sewing machine my wife can borrow? I promise she’ll give it back.
(she’s looking at the chair in our basement and thinking about reupholstering it.)

Sure … but you’ll have to come get it.
Ditto. I’m considering a new one, so she can have mine–you can pick it up when you come up, actually.
Thanks you guys. I’m trying not to get freaked out by the book I got from the library—having tried to do something like this once before (sans directions), I’m a little shy.
Well, that and the blue gingham prairie skirt and puffed sleeve shirt I made in 1981 make me afraid of sewing.
Are you planning to make a slipcover, or actually reupholster the chair?
Mostly reupholster, but given the style of the chair, there would be some sewing required.
Honestly, at this point I’m thinking I should start with a much less ambitious project.
Slipcovers are harder than reupholstery, I’d venture. And gingham is just scary no matter what.
I totally agree with Renie – that’s why I asked. I’m nowhere near good enough to attempt a proper slipcover yet.
